Sounds from Ghana

07.09.2013 19:00 Uhr - 20:30 Uhr

Afrika Haus BerlinVom 7.

The objective of this project is to illustrate the variety of Ghanaian traditional music styles and how these traditions are transmitted from one generation to the next. An emphasis is put on how the Ghanaian cultural heritage is being preserved and what role music plays in the education and development of children.

Sounds from Ghana was produced by a team of Ghanaian and European filmmakers and photographers which have visited more than 25 communities and villages throughout the ten regions of Ghana.

The result is a documentary film and a photo exhibition which has been launched in Accra in 2012 and is now shown in Berlin from the 7th to the 30th of September 2013 at the Afrika Haus Berlin.

“Sounds from Ghana will certainly make its audience fall in love with the country’s colours, sounds and vibrations, but mostly … with its musical treasures and its people” – Prof. Dr. Isaac Richard Amuah, Director of the Department of Music at the University of Cape Coast
